12.02.07 Handlebar for the unicycle!

After a very long time with thoughts and tinkering back and forth, the first prototype of the unicycle handlebar is a fact. A lot of tests have been performed before this result was accomplished, but now it is anatomically good for a first stage prototype. The handlebar will be cut and adjusted as we go along with our test runs to make it perfect for our use. Most often we are in an upright position pedalling the unicycle, but with the handlebar we shall be able to relieve our body weight and thereby save a lot of effort performed by other muscles in our body. The way we do this is unique. It will be like running "dips" with long intervals - a good thing that our body includes a triceps muscle!! It will be great to be able to hang on the arms down to Oslo.

After 2 days with cutting and welding in Kato’s (brother-in-law) garage, the contraption was put together. Kato is a perfectionist with a welding machine and everything else, making the handlebar solid and functional. The first handlebar test run has been made on local snow covered roads. No problems getting on and off, but some technique training remains to stabilize the confidence at the point of balance.
